Some of NewsWire's characteristics:

  • No special server is required. Any HTTP server can be used to create NewsWire services.
  • Index documents that point to other NewsWire services can be created.
  • NewsWire documents can be created on the fly with CGI or any other method supported by your server.
  • Proxy Servers are supported.
  • Can be configured as a helper application in your browser.
  • Server side control over document refresh time.

How does NewsWire work:

NewsWire is a WWW browser that reads standard HTML files of an HTTP server. Two types of documents can be created: regular documents that are scrolled through the main window and index documents that contain pointers to other NewsWire services and that are presented in an index window.

Presently NewsWire supports a limited subset of HTML tags. Particular information required by NewsWire is passed to it using <META> tags. For more information please read "Creating NewsWire Services"

V C++ gui logo NewsWire was developed using Dr. Bruce E. Wampler's C++ gui framework V

The Win32 version was compiled using the gnu-win32 compliler form Cygnus.
